Counselling
You are not alone... even though it can feel that way
Sometimes life can feel complex, painful or difficult to make sense of, no matter how good it seems to everyone else. When you feel like you are alone with a problem that has left you with nowhere to turn, please know that you are not alone, know that there is always someone to reach out to and someone who can help you unravel what is constantly spinning around your head. Whether you are facing personal challenges, grief, relational strain, or a period of transition, the process supports you in understanding your experience more deeply.
Counselling provides a confidential and private space where you can begin to make sense of what feels overwhelming or unclear. Sometimes simply talking about your problems with a neutral person can bring clarity.
Counselling offers a structured and supportive environment where you can reflect, process, and regain perspective.
With careful attention and thoughtful guidance, counselling helps restore clarity, strengthen resilience, and create a grounded way forward.
Through a calm and professional approach, the work focuses on helping you understand patterns, reduce emotional distress, and move toward decisions that align with your values and wellbeing.
Dr Spurrier has been counselling people for more than 30 years, first as a lay counsellor, then as a prison counsellor and then as a professional social worker. Counselling is not about quick fixes, but about meaningful understanding and sustainable change. In a confidential and respectful setting, you are supported to explore what is happening beneath the surface—thoughts, emotions, and relational dynamics. This process allows for greater self-awareness, emotional regulation, and the ability to engage with life’s challenges with increased clarity and confidence.
When uncertainty, stress, or conflict begins to affect your sense of stability, counselling offers a place to pause and think clearly. The process creates a safe and contained space where your experience can be explored without feeling judged. Here you can regain your sense of balance, you can strengthen your internal resources, and move forward with greater intention and steadiness.
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of counselling do you do?
Originally trained in the person-centred approach of Carl Rodgers, amongst others, Dr Spurrier describes herself as an integrative counsellor as she melds more than one approach and calls on the skills required with each client on an individual basis. Counselling can be about relationships, individual or marriage; adjustment to a new environment or status in life; when life changes have happened. Each client is met where they are at to find the best possible outcomes.
Is counselling confidential?
Counselling is highly confidential. Karen’s staff have signed NDA’s and are trusted by her to share nothing from the office with any other person, whether that be the accounts of people who visit there or the mere fact that they have been at the office. Our motto is;
“What you say in here stays in here”,
The ONLY time something may be shared is:
- If you have given Dr Spurrier permisssion to do so;
- If someone is hurting you;
- If you want to hurt someone;
- If you want to hurt yourself.
