Each area of specialisation focuses the unique requirements for successful completion and finalisation in court. We help you prepare everything properly in the correct formats and with all the accompanying statutory documents . Dr Karen Spurrier is not an attorney but is a qualified registered mediator. Registration with SAAM and ADR.

Parenting co-ordination

Our parenting co-ordination, (also known as Facilitation) services, entail assisting parents and their children with the implementation of an approved parenting plan. PCs are appointed by the court in fractious relationships and where access becomes problematic.

Child Participation

Child Participation has become a very important part of any structured agreements involving children. According Section 7 (10) of The Children's Act (38 of 2005) "Every child that is of such an age, maturity and stage of development as to be able to particpate in any matter concerning that child has the right to participate in an appropriate way and views expressed by the child must be given due consideration."

This translates into a child having the right to be heard.

Parenting Plans

Parenting plans under section 33 of the Children's Act provides for a specified framework according to which parenting plans must be drawn up. Parenting plans are formal written agreements which regulate how co-holders of parental rights and responsibilities will exercie their duties regarding care of and contact with their children.

Care and contact investigations

Section 23 of the South African Children’s Act 38 of 2005 allows any person with an interest in a child’s care, well-being, or development (such as extended family members or stepparents) to apply to the High Court, a divorce court, or a children's court for court-ordered care or contact rights.

The court often requires an expert to investigate and report to the court the circumstances as well as the experts reccommendations.

Counselling

Counselling is confidential and private in nature. It entails "talk therapy" where an individual, couple, or family meets with a trained mental health professional who helps them to unjumble the thoughts and circumstances of their lives. It provides a safe, non-judgmental space to explore their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, which helps clients gain clarity and develop coping strategies to manage challenges.
